Peace stele

Frank Haase
Peace stele in Iserlohn-Letmathe
Art in public space: Corten steel, stainless steel, 2015
55 x 30 x 220 cm

On April 16, 1945, the Second World War ended in the Letmathe district of Iserlohn. In May 2015 the citizens of Letmather celebrated the seventy years of peace with a three-day peace festival. On this occasion, the peace stele was installed to commemorate the value of peace. Twelve doves of peace have been cut out of the Corten steel construction, which were mounted on “plaques” and given as a gift to the associations and institutions involved, as well as the partner cities in France and Poland. The peace doves from the Letmathe peace stele are now in the town halls of the former opponents of the war as witnesses of reconciliation and friendship.
