Soaring seagulls in the roaring surf – no other picture can better describe the forces of nature on the coast than this interplay between life and inhospitable natural forces. In a certain way, the struggle of life against nature, survival under adverse conditions, seems to be represented here. In 2013 and 2014 I produced four shadow paintings for this play. They all have their origins in Norderney, where the birds perch on the stone groynes on the north beach and have to avoid the big waves by briefly ascending.
